I&#8217;m often torn between traveling to see my family or staying home on Hatteras, to enjoy the solitude and nature of this wonderful place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Holiday business was down and other than the dump trucks pummeling highway 12, there was little human activity. I got caught up on everything, sent out greeting cards and finished a small photography job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">With some time on my hands, I decided to stay on the island, relax and look for things to photograph.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/road-to.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"road to\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/road-to.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">One of the last times I used the 4&#215;4 section of highway 12, I took a shot to record the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sandbags.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1992\" title=\"sandbags\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sandbags.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sandbags.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sandbags-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">With new pavement in place, workers were busy installing a barrier of sandbags, in hopes of protecting the highway. Heavy equipment removes sand blown onto the road, only to have it blown right back. I celebrated by driving out to Cape Point during a gale. This is where two powerful forces meet. The south bound Labrador Current collides with the north bound Gulf Stream.
