It consisted of a few local guys and a reputation for well-built beach cottages. Two people on that crew were Larry Midgett and Jimmy Hooper. Both grew up in Salvo when it was a much more rural town than it is today.<\/p>\n<p>Much like their fathers and forefathers before them, they spent time fishing and hunting. One Fall day in 1975 they invited me to a Salvo creek to photograph a shark they had just caught on the Rodanthe pier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/shark-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4555\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/shark-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/shark-1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/shark-1-400x254.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was the start of a friendship that I would keep even to this day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my first jobs on Hatteras Island was with John Luke\u2019s construction crew.
