Called the Jug Handle because of its shape, it bypasses a section of highway 12 that\u2019s been constantly washed out by the ocean. Like most bridges, construction began from two terminal locations, to ultimately meet in the middle. For me, it&#8217;s a chance to shoot some interesting pictures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/from-dune.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5304\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/from-dune.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/from-dune.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/from-dune-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ten days ago as the north terminus was nearing its south counterpart, I took a photo from the dunes across the highway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5306\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/3.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/3-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A week later I shot a similar photograph from a closer vantage point along the sound side shoreline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5305\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cranes are enormous.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5307\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/4.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/4-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Water depth along the route is only a few feet deep, too shallow to work from a barge, so a trestle system was built along each side to accommodate machinery. The two bridge ends will soon be connected.
