At 7 years old, I remember flying a <strong><em>DC-4\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(or something similar) to Newfoundland. A few years later, we were on long round trip flights to and from the island of Guam on a (MATS) <strong><em>Lockheed Constellation<\/em><\/strong>. Ever since, I\u2019ve had a fascination for airplanes.<\/p>\n<p>On a west coast trip recently, we visited the <strong><em>Palm Springs Air Museum<\/em><\/strong> in California, where there was plenty to see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/B-17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6309\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/B-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/B-17.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/B-17-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Highlights for me included a replica<strong><em>\u00a0Memphis Belle<\/em><\/strong> used in filming the 1990 movie of the same name.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Belle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6310\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Belle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Belle.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Belle-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>B-17<\/strong><\/em> is powered by 4 nine-cylinder air-cooled radial engines. During that war, my brother-in-law flew as a navigator aboard an <em><strong>A-6A Intruder<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0off the <strong><em>USS Kitty Hawk<\/em><\/strong>. Returning from a mission over North Vietnam, Jim and his pilot were lost and listed <strong>MIA<\/strong>. After years of searching, remains were located and verified through DNA testing. 2006 he was brought home and buried with full military honors at <em><strong>Arlington National Cemetery<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/JP.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6314\" src=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/JP.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/JP.jpg 600w, http:\/\/photoblog.michaelhalminski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/JP-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was emotional to see 2 bracelets with Jim&#8217;s name and missing-in-action date. My family wore these for years in hopes of his coming home alive.
